Prophets in the Bible

Bible Verse:
"The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord." (Hosea 1:2, KJV)

Context:
Hosea’s life was a prophetic sign to Israel—his marriage to Gomer, an unfaithful woman, symbolized God’s relationship with unfaithful Israel.

Bible Verse:
"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." (Jeremiah 1:5, KJV)

Context:
Jeremiah is known as the Weeping Prophet because of his sorrow over Israel’s sins and the destruction of Jerusalem. He prophesied the Babylonian exile and wrote the book of Lamentations.

Bible Verse:
"Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me." (Ezekiel 3:17, KJV)

Context:
Ezekiel was a prophet during the Babylonian exile. His visions included the Valley of Dry Bones, the Four Living Creatures, and the future restoration of Israel.

Bible Verse:
"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." (Amos 3:7, KJV)

Context:
Amos was a shepherd and prophet who spoke against the social injustice and corruption in Israel. He warned of God’s judgment but also promised future restoration.

Bible Verse:
"The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly." (Zephaniah 1:14, KJV)

Context:
Zephaniah warned of the coming judgment but also foretold a future restoration for the faithful.

Bible Verse:
"And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee." (Jonah 3:1-2, KJV)

Context:
Jonah was sent to preach repentance to Nineveh, but he tried to flee. After being swallowed by a great fish, he finally obeyed God, and Nineveh repented.

Bible Verse:
"The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked." (Nahum 1:3, KJV)

Context:
Nahum prophesied the fall of Nineveh, warning that God’s justice would bring destruction to the Assyrians.

Bible Verse:
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee." (Zechariah 9:9, KJV)

Context:
Zechariah prophesied about the coming of the Messiah and the future kingdom of God.

"And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me." (2 Kings 2:9, KJV)

Context:
Elisha was the successor of Elijah and performed many miracles, including raising the dead, healing Naaman from leprosy, and multiplying food during famine.

Bible Verse:
"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed." (Daniel 2:44, KJV)

Context:
Daniel was taken to Babylon as a young man and became a prophet in the royal court. His prophecies include the visions of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the Four Beasts, and the End Times.
